I have spent quite a few hours in D:OS, and I found that it was way, way better explained than SPG2. I'm fine with RPG's having misc. Items that have no explained usage (thus why I save goddamn everything that isn't obvious junk), my issue is with mechanics that are unexplained.I mean I played the X series of space sims, so I'm used to figuring out how things work.

But so many things in SPG2 have ZERO in game references, and aren't exactly easy to test. For instance, what is 'Pre-Launch' when it comes to fighters? There is no reference to that stat in the manual, and hovering over gives you no tool-tip. Is it the refueling time??

Because the fighters/interceptors launch as soon as I click them. It's a bit different, in my opinion. I hate it when reality tries to get injected into my fantasy game, but there's no way in hell a ship's captain would not understand the basics of every system on his or her ship. It's one thing to figure out how magic works and another thing to have to do the same to figure out how a missile, built in a factory, works. Also, just trying to figure the difference in the three weapon types is pointless. Beams work better on shields? Maybe, but there's no way to run a test, no damage numbers to see, no idea if soak is in effect or even works, what the level of the captain does to affect damage taken, nor what skills may or may not be influencing it. There are simply too many unexplained variables, not enough messages about effects of skills/items.Weapon cost.

That's what I use to select weapons. That's silly. That DPS is not right. Different batteries on either side, flip in mid-fight. Or just spin while target locked throughout the fight. Also, DPS doesn't count for a fight that lasts longer than your battery lasts. You can mitigate that somewhat, but if you're in a scrum, energy usage trumps straight DPS, in my experience. And DPS against what.

Soak?Even if you're willing to go with pure DPS for your weapon choice. Why do they offer choices? The cost between weapons is rarely more than a single ship capture or mining run, so that seems like a set of false choices at that point.Regardless, no captain in command of an armed vessel would be as ignorant of the systems in their ship as I am.

The biggest difference I've seen so far is accuracy at long range vs overall damage.Beams hit instantly at long range, so they're really good for softening a target while dodging their return fire (unless they too have beams). Damage on beams seems to be lower than other guns to compensate.Railguns are middle of the pack. They have projectiles with travel time, so they can be dodged at long range.

However the projectiles travel pretty fast, so you'll more likely than not land most of your shots. The adventures of willy beamish free download. Damage is generally higher than beams.Plasma has the slowest traveling projectiles of the 3 types. At max range your target could be in a completely different place, so you're either leading like crazy or outright missing. However it tends to have the highest damage of the three, so if you don't mind getting close targets will melt.
