Civilization V Analyst

I have to admit, i do dislike the new way they've made civs unique, because some civs are terrible compared to others, i can see maybe 4 civs becoming commonly used. You can't raze a city you founded, a City-State, or another civilization's Capital. But you can choose to raze any occupied city at any time (there is a button for it in the City Screen). Cities no longer flip from culture, and cultural borders between civilizations do not shift due to additional culture once established.

Over the years I stayed away from the Civ games out of disinterest for the historical setting. But with Civ 5 Complete looking so good, I'm wondering if I shouldn't take the plunge. Beyond Earth is close to release (and pre-ordered), but there's a definite itch in need of scratching. So is Civ 5 worth it, even with a new Civ on the horizon, and even for someone who usually doesn't care for historical settings in his Strategy games? Or will this only be a pricy time sink to be played for three weeks and then abandonned on the 24th? Civ v will probably be active for a while and probably wont be dethroned from the top 5 active steam games by beyond earth for a few months. If you already have beyond earth pre-ordered stick with that if for whatever reason people hate beyond earth (not saying they will im saying IF) then you should definetly get Civ V during a sale (with the expansions you wont be able to get into most games without them anyways because if you dont have the dlc it gets deactivated for the entire lobby meaning youl be kicked if you dont have it)So yah only buy civ v if beyond earth doesnt do so hot.

Civ V is one of the best strategy games I've played. I was extremely turned off to Civilization games because of Civ 4. But in Civ V they fixed just about anything that was wrong in Civ 4 and simplified it a bit (which ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off alot of veteran Civ1-4 gamers but was good for the rest of us). The combat makes sense and the military advancements plentiful, graphics much better of course, trading and diplomatic relations including the World Ongress with the expansions is wesome, religion side of the game is well thought out. I could go on. I highly suggest because I feel like I was feeling the same way about these games until Civ V and took the chance. Civ6

Or will this only be a pricy time sink to be played for three weeks and then abandonned on the 24th? It's not like Ensamble Studios AOE series that went bankrupt 5 years ago and last year it was pickeded up by Microsoft Studios. The only thing that will dethrone Civ 5 from the specific niche it fills is a Civ 6. Even if Beyond Earth turns out great, Civ 5 will still dominate the 4X market when it comes to the pseudo-historical theme. Paradox games are good, but most agree that the two styles don't overlap. So I suppose my opinion is this: Unless you are absolutely 100% against the historical theme of Civ 5, there is no reason not to pick it up. You can get the complete version for cheap, and it will be a solid game until a Civ 6.
