Loot drops in this game like Diablo, more often than not loot drops from chests. They can drop from enemies but its fairly rare.First of all, don't get caught up in going from mission to mission blindly. You can rerun missions and amp up the difficulty for clearly defined bonuses to quality of loot and experience.Also, when you get in a mission don't be in such a rush to complete it, use your down arrow and go boss hunting.

There are named mobs, timed events and other challenging mini missions that can be tackled for quality loot and upgrade materials.Lastly, it seems the only way you can get upgrade materials out of a weapon is to slot something different or to break down the weapon. At least you get your materials back though so thats nice. The number of enemies seems to scale up with the number of players in your party.You can launch a mission and leave it open or jump right into a session already in progress if you want to co-op some levels. Alternatively if you don't want people joining your session you can leave it friends only or invite only.There also seems to be a Dark Souls like invasion mechanic that I haven't quite figured out yet. You can disable that if you don't feel like getting merked by another player.Long reply but I think its fairly solo friendly.
